This Community Service and Social Outreach Programme of G.D. Goenka Public School, Siliguri looks at the four pillars that is imperative to a life of quality and purpose: Hope, Health, Hygiene and Humanity. These are some of the fundamentals for existence which we take for granted but are missing from the lives so many. G4H for Goenkans for Health, Humanity, Hope and Hygiene creates avenues to bring these advantages into the lives of others.
The quintessential Goenkan celebrates similarities and embraces differences and shares his or her blessings with those whose lives may not be as fortunate through our Social Outreach programme we seek to share the tear and spread the smile. In this extremely gratifying activity we find that in elevating another we reach to greater height ourselves.

Keeping Health Goals in mind, a Fitness Campaign was started with the Caregivers from 9th October 2020 onwards, at G.D Goenka School, Siliguri campus. The team includes all drivers, conductors, kitchen and hostel staff members who are encouraged to participate in health and other wellness activities.

Community clean- up projects are initiated by the school in view of improving the surrounding areas near the school. Members from the Transport team cleared the area within a radius of 3km from the school. They removed plastic, trash, unwanted shrubs and bushes around the area, which aimed at creating social consciousness amongst the residents in the vicinity.
The Transport team initiated a project to clean all the streams and water bodies in the neighboring areas. All they need are gloves, brooms, masks, sickles, bags and a relentless spirit to do something for the society. The above activities serve to be a motivating factor in encouraging the Team in doing their best to serve the society in the coming days too.

With a vision to spread the wings of education beyond the classroom and children, the school aims to provide harmonised learning for its caretakers too. From 5th September 2020, the school started its project- "Educate to Elevate" with a team of 115 female caretakers from various areas of the school like kitchen, hostel, etc. guided by the hostel staff.
The team was divided into six groups, looking at the different level of education that these ladies had. It was surprising to see the wide disparity where one was a graduate and the other had not even received elementary education. Through this initiative, the school aims at taking care of the caretakers and help them unleash their potential to contribute in the society and get greater control in life. Besides their everyday chores and duties, they invest a couple of hours into a training and learning program which would empower them and create a better world. NTT (Nursery Teacher Training) is being availed by 15 staff members, through which they are training to be assimilated as Teachers in the Pre-Primary section.
"The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies" - Gertrude Jekyll
The school campus, spread around an area of about eight acres provided ample space and opportunity to explore the possibility of self-sufficiency and honing one's skill at having green fingers. This kindled an enthusiasm for the Project - "GYOF". The campaign which started on 5th September 2020 with around 120 caretakers, ignited a passion in the understanding of where your food comes from and in growing your Own Food.
There are six different allotted areas in the school where we grow different varieties of vegetables, herbal Ayurveda plants and fruits. The areas are monitored and taken care of by our caretakers who have designated area of work. This is a drive started by the School for a healthier life and create sustainability. Students and staff members are also a part of this Self- Sufficiency Campaign where they grow plants.
